Meet the Team
Craig H. Weinstein, MD, MPH
Sports & Orthopaedic Specialists is led by Dr. Weinstein, a magna cum laude graduate of Columbia University, who received his Sports Medicine fellowship training at the world-famous American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, AL. However, Dr. Weinstein has his roots in Arizona; he graduated from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale.
Dr. Weinstein’s specialties include shoulder, elbow, and knee issues as well as athletic injuries in both adult and adolescent patients. He offers state-of-the-art joint preservation as well as advanced treatment of injuries specific to throwing athletes, such as “frozen shoulder.” In addition, he offers extensive expertise in joint replacement surgery.
William M. Meszaros, MD
Dr. Meszaros joined Sports & Orthopedic Specialists in 2019. He originally moved to Arizona from Michigan to work as a computer engineer for McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Company. After a few years he changed career paths to medicine and obtained his medical degree from the University of Arizona. He completed is orthopedic residency at Northwestern University in Chicago followed by a sports medicine fellowship in San Diego.
Dr. Meszaros treats a variety of orthopedic conditions with a special interest in shoulder and knee surgeries.
Nicole M. D’Apice PA-C
Nicole is the Physician Assistant at Sports & Orthopaedic Specialists. Originally from Michigan, she earned her bachelors degree from Grand Valley State University in athletic training and corporate fitness and wellness. She then earned her masters degree in athletic training at A.T. Still University. While in school, she worked in a physical therapy clinic rehabilitating orthopedic injuries. From there she served as the head athletic trainer at Tempe High School and then Apache Junction High School. She also taught sports medicine courses to high school students and helped create a student athletic training program. Nicole earned her Physician Assistant degree in 2010.
Nicole’s specialties include diagnosis and treatment of concussions, broken bones, and general sports-related injuries. She is also experienced with the treatment of various joint and mobility issues.
Theresa D. Koppal, PA
Theresa is a Board Certified Physician Assistant at Sports and Orthopedic Specialists. She received her PA degree in 2014 from the University of North Dakota and has been working in family medicine and urgent care since graduation.
Prior to becoming a PA, Theresa received her undergraduate degree in Athletic Training from West Chester University in southeastern Pennsylvania where she was also a member of the volleyball team. After graduation she served as an Intern Athletic Trainer with the University of Maryland, working primarily with the wrestling team. She returned to school at the University of Florida in 2006, where she earned a Master’s in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology. While studying at UF, she was the Head Athletic Trainer for Buccholz High School, serving all of the school’s 6A teams.
After graduation from UF, she headed out west to Northern Arizona University as an Associate Athletic Trainer, working mostly with women’s basketball and men’s and women’s tennis. Theresa is excited to be back in the world of orthopedics and enjoys helping to keep athletes of all ages performing at their best.
